Description
Weavers often drew inspiration from their surroundings and the natural environment, incorporating their own imaginative designs into Gabbehs. Since these rugs were traditionally woven for the weaver’s personal use, they reflected personal ideas and, at times, the weaver’s hopes and wishes.
For example, a tent motif may symbolize the desire for a permanent shelter, while human figures often represent family. Each motif carries its own symbolic meaning. Gabbeh is an authentic handwoven textile, and the motifs used in its weaving clearly distinguish it from other handmade rugs. Most Gabbeh designs are inspired by the weavers’ natural surroundings and shaped by their individual imagination.
