Kalat Naderi Kilim is a coarse-woven woolen kilim produced in the Kalat Naderi region. It is said that the finest Iranian palas (a type of flat weave) is made in two areas: Kalat Naderi and the Turkmen Sahra. Some experts believe that the migration of certain Lur tribes from western Iran to the border regions of Khorasan played a key role in the spread of palas weaving in this area.
Although second-grade cotton fibers are sometimes used in palas weaving, the Kalat kilim is essentially a palas woven entirely from wool, making it an excellent insulator against heat and moisture. Most Kalat kilims are produced in the villages of Sirzar, Qaleh Zo, and Aghdash.
