Description
Kurdish weavers typically use the symmetric Kurdish knot on a wool warp, as seen in various Kurdish carpets such as the Bijar rug. The background of these carpets is often in brick-red or orange tones, adorned with motifs in blue, green, and ochre, which bring life to the traditional Kurdish symbols woven into the design.
Kurdish carpets are exceptionally durable, highly resistant to wear and decay, and well-suited for everyday use. The warp of a handwoven Kurdish carpet is usually stretched with thick wool, and the rug is woven using a double knot. This robust structure has allowed many Kurdish carpets to withstand the passage of time, enabling them to be presented today not only as functional textiles but also as valuable works of art
