Description
The city of Yazd was not originally one of the main centers of carpet weaving, and reading complex carpet patterns was often difficult for local weavers, with a high likelihood of errors. For this reason, the Vagireh (repeating unit) design was warmly welcomed by Yazd weavers, as its structure makes pattern reading significantly easier and more practical.
Among the most important and well-known designs associated with this tradition are Gol-o-Mahi (Herati), Sardar Jangal, Amir Jangi, Ahmad Mohammadabadi, Tal-o-Khoncheh, and East London motifs, each reflecting a distinct aesthetic and cultural identity within Iranian carpet art.
